Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has suspended eight including two referees over match-fixing!

These have been given a provisional suspension of three months.

FUFA said that the decision was taken by the Investigation Chamber of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee in compliance with Article 73 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

The two referees are George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio, but FUFA has not given more details or matches the two handled.

Three Gaddafi players Andrew Waiswa, Mahad Yaya and Godfrey Lwesibawa (who has since joined Kitara), have been implicated.

The list include Big League players Saleh Magada (Calvary), Franco Oringa (Northern Gateway) and Abdallah Mwima (Ndejje University).

“The provisional suspension comes into force immediately and has been notified to each individual,” reads a statement in part.

The suspended players and officials were summoned and appeared to the Chamber.

“The Chamber took decisions following confessions by individuals and available data from the Match Integrity reports.”

FUFA Investigative Chamber Deputy Charles Twiine said that they started investigations after upon receipt of information from Match betting reports provided by FUFA Integrity reporting platform.

In March, FUFA launched an anti-match fixing campaign aimed at curbing the vice.
