Victoria Series: Uganda Face Highly-rated UAE

•Kenya Vs Tanzania
•UAE Vs Uganda

Uganda will stick to the basics on Thursday when they meet UAE in their second game of the Victoria Series Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko has insisted.

The Pearls eased past the tournament’s lowest ranked team Rwanda in their opening game on Tuesday, but they come up against tournament favourites UAE who have all to play for following their 7 wicket loss to Tanzania on Wednesday.

UAE set a very decent score of 138 against Fatuma Omary Kibasu’s captained side, but were unable to defend it as the Tanzanians ran riots in what was the latter’s first game.

Speaking to The Sports Nation ahead of the game, Aweko who picked up two wickets against Rwanda pointed out their Thursday opponent’s weakness, but insisted their game plan isn’t changing.

“I think their weakness is their fielding, but their loss to Tanzania cannot make us change our initial strategy.

“We shall stick to the basics and continue with our process we are working on as a team, and not forgetting we are taking each game at a time.”

The two sides will meet on Thursday afternoon both looking for a second win, and Uganda will hope their opening batters Proscovia Alako and Kevin Awino come with their scoring bats.

The two didn’t get off to a good start on Tuesday as both didn’t live to see the end of powerplay. Alako went for a duck while Awino managed just 2 runs. Aweko and her team will be hopeful the two are in their best form as they look to outcompete the Arabians.

UAE on the other side will try to avoid a second defeat if they’re to stay on course for fulfilling their goal which is winning the event. Their captain Chaya Mughal prior to the start of the tourney said their goal here is to win the thing.

The side was beefed up by the arrival of three of their best batters including Esha Rohit Oza who had been delayed by flight issues.

Oza scored 14 runs against Tanzania as an opening batter, and picked up one wicket. UAE will be hoping for the best from her tomorrow.
