Rwanda picked up their first win of the tournament following their 47 run victory over Kenya on Wednesday at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

The afternoon showers had threatened to wash out the game, but after the drizzles stopping, the match was commenced an hour and 45 minutes late. Because of time, it was decided the game be reduced to 14 Overs, and Rwanda after winning the toss elected to bat.

Sarah Uwera and Clarisse Umutoniwase opened well for Rwanda with Uwera scoring 19 runs off 19 balls, and the latter getting 23 from 26. Both were picked up in the eighth Over, but they had done just enough to give Rwanda the momentum they needed.

Henrietta Ishimwe joined the crease in the same Over, and put on board 26 not out which added to the duo’s tally, handed Rwanda a score they were able to defend.

Their attack saw only one Kenya player, Sharon Juma who is the team captain and wicketkeeper score in double figures (13). The rest of the Kenyan field including Esther Wachira who picked up 3 wickets and who batted at number 4 each failed to go beyond 5 runs.

Rwanda lost by 7 wickets to Uganda in their opening game, but this result leaves them right in the mix of fighting for a place in the final.

Kenya meanwhile have their chances of making it to the final diminish. The side will try to make amends tomorrow when they face Tanzania in the morning at the same ground.

For Rwanda, they take a one day break and will return to action on Friday against UAE.
