Uganda Cup: Adjumani TC Stun Express To Storm Semifinals

Saturday 15th April
Adjumani TC 2-0 Express

FUFA Big League entity Adjumani Town Council held on to eject record champions Express out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at Paridi Playground.

A goal in each half from Ajiga Micheal and Swadiki Collensis inspired the cocks to a 2-0 triumph over the Red Eagles

Express only hope for silverware is over and will have nothing to show at the end of the season.

James Odoch’s side couldn’t reciprocate their recent league form to eliminate the Minnows.

It’s a statement win for the West Nile based side who will play in the last four for the first time since their existence.

It’s strong to note that a week back, six Adjumani TC players and their assistant coach sustained injuries after they were attacked by Kataka FC fans in Mbale.

Adjumani Town Council took an early lead under six minutes after Ajiga fired home a freekick to the jubilation of the home crowds.

After going behind, the visitors took the ball to the hosts with a hope of finding the leveller.

But the hosts were firm behind the ball to tame all the threats that went their way.

In the 70th minute, Swadiki doubled the host’s lead with a volley after a counter attack.

The goal all but ended Express hopes of a come back.

Adjumani Town Council becomes the second FUFA Big League side to knock out a Uganda Premier League side.

Police FC had earlier ejected BUL FC on Wednesday.

Vipers is the only top flight team that have qualified for the semi finals so far.

Express will now shift focus to the league game against Busoga United on Tuesday 18th at Wankulukuku Stadium while Adjumani TC will host Calvary FC at Paridi Playground on Tuesday on the same day.

Express XI: Otim Denis (GK), Isa Lumu, Denis Otim, Isma Kawawulo, Daniel Shabene, Andrew Kaggwa, Joseph Akandwanaho, Hussein Ssenoga, Faisal Ssekyanzi, Anwar Ntege, Boban Zirintusa.
