Schools Rugby: SMACK Beaten In Three Finals

Finals results | 08th April, 2023.

•U20: SMACK 13- 33 HANA

•U17: SMACK 25- 35 Namilyango College

•U15: SMACK 07- 09 Kings College Budo

Having fronted three teams to play in all the three different finals of the central schools 15’s rugby league 2023, SMACK were unable to walk away with a single victory.

Losing to Kings College Budo in the under 15 final, Namilyango College in the under 17, and wrapping it up with a massive loss to Hana in the under 20 final fixture, SMACK had an extremely disappointing end to the competition this year.

The contest against Hana looked to be rewarding in the start as SMACK assumed the lead by 8-0 after failed attempts at the poles twice.

Their lead didn’t last long, Hana scored two successive tries to take control of the score line before SMACK responded with an unsuccessfully converted try of their own, shifting the score to 13-14 in favour of Hana International.

The closely contested first half came to an end with a score of 13-14 but Hana were one man down as they had a player sent into the sin-bin just before half time.

With fourteen players, Hana kicked off the second half with intensity scoring right from kick off to widen the gap between them and their opponents.

Successive penalties for Hana saw them move even further away from the proximity of their opponents.

Malcom Okello, having had a challenging first half off the tee, showcased a brilliant kicking game in the second half as he saw off a total of four penalties, all of which were successful and were enough to guide his team to victory.

SMACK fought to get back into the game but their efforts were never rewarded.

They were unable to find a way past the impeccable Hana defence and therefore unsuccessful in putting up any points in the second half.

In the end, what looked to be a great season for the Eagles, turned out to be utter disappointment.

After being away from the competition for so long, Hana International walked away as the under 20 champions.

Record winners, Namilyango College, scooped the under 17 title while Kings College Budo emerged the under 15 champions.
