In the bottom of the table affair at Legends, the Rhinos managed to pull off a nail-biting victory against the Rams in the last kick of the game with a last-minute drop goal securing the win by a score of 8-6.

The game started off as a defensive battle, with both teams fighting hard to prevent the other from scoring.

Like the first leg that ended in a 3-all draw, the game played out to be a very tightly contested encounter with both sides locked-in at 0-0 for three quarters of the first half.

The first half ended 5-0 in favour of Rhinos, who were able to finally score through Emmanuel Kiyaga shortly before the half time whistle.

The second half kicked off with the Rams dominating the hosts and taking the fight towards the Rhinos half.

The pressure from Rams forced Rhinos to employ a kicking game for their safety.

Rams secured a penalty and with the missed penalty chances in the first half, Hossana Opileni who came off bench and rejoined the team following his recent absence, brought back life to the visitors’ camp with their first points of the day to narrow the gap by a 5-3 score.

A second penalty, successfully taken by the returning fly-half saw Rams take the lead by a narrow margin, much to the delight of their travelling fans.

As the clock ticked down and the tension mounted, it seemed as though the Rams might just hold on for the win and keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive but the Rhinos had other plans.

Rhinos secured a penalty at the Rams 22-metre line but decided to play the ball where most would think a shot at poles would be best.

With just seconds remaining on the clock, they launched one final attack, with their fly-half Emmanuel Kwebikanga stepping up to take the drop goal.

The ball sailed through the uprights, sending the Rhinos fans into raptures and breaking the hearts of the Rams faithful.

For the Rhinos, the win was a crucial one as they seek to secure their position on the league table and avoid the dreaded drop to the lower division.

Meanwhile, the Rams will be left ruing missed opportunities as they face an uphill battle to avoid relegation.
