Power Target Return To Winning Ways

Power will be hoping to return to winning ways when they face off with UPDF Tomahawks on Wednesday in the National Basketball League at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The five-time NBL champions lost 60-63 against Nam Blazers on Good Friday in their last game.

The defeat, was the second in four games for Timothy Odeke’s side who were well beaten by City Oilers 49-106.

Their two wins came against Rezlife Saints (83-81) and Ndejje Angels (68-59).

And against UPDF, they will fancy their chances against a team they have beaten in recent meetings.

Power beat UPDF in both games last season 76-71 and 78-66 in the first and second rounds respectively.

They won one of the two fixtures in the 2018 season, in a campaign Baker Kyambadde’s side suffered relegation to Division One.

Isaac Afidra, averaging 7 points and 12 rebounds this season, has carried the bigger burden and will this time need support across the field if Power is to have get a needed result.

The starting Guards – Elvis Mutebi and Elvis Ssentongo – were less productive against Nam Blazers and finished with a combined 3 points!

Power have a porous front court with players like Stephen Otoa, Imran Samad and Yat Tiem Ruot expected to improve their physical game against a hard-fighting UPDF.

The Tomahawks have one win in four games, coming in their opening match against Kampala Rockets.

And have since lost three in a row – KCCA Panthers, City Oilers and KIU Titans.

David Opolot and Ferdinand Odama remain suspended, with the latter seeing his last game after he was guilty of dangerous player against Titus Lual of City Oilers.

In the first game, Angels who are celebrating 10 years of existence this season, will be up against defending champions UCU Lady Canons.

This will be Angels’ second game this season having lost the opener 57-81 against KIU Rangers.

The Lady Canons on the other hand, have won three of their five games so far including an impressive 78-73 win over KCCA Leopards in their last fixture.

It’s strong to note that Angels stunned UCU with a 68-63 win in the second round last season.
