Opinion: Let’s Give Magera His Flowers

By Nsereko Hamza Kawuma Afriqana

Jackson Magera is underrated. He doesn’t receive the commendation he deserves as the SC Villa Head Coach.

Of recent, many Villa fans are on cloud nine because of the superb performance of their club, giving little or no mention to Head Coach Jackson ‘Nelly’ Magera who in my opinion has had a great influence on the team’s performance.

Those who have followed him can give testimony about his great game comprehension, looking over & tactics. Never did I know that he would make a good Head Coach because of the roles he had at his former employer KCCA FC.

At the beginning of the season, many inclusive of the writer never speculated that the Jogoos would put up a good show because of the quality of players they had assembled for the 2022/23
season compared to their Kitende and Lugogo based rivals Vipers SC and KCCA FC.

Besides a few players who had featured for the Uganda Hippos and Cubs like Kenneth Semakula, Travis Mutyaba, Davis Ssekagya plus Joseph Kafumbe jointly with some recognized names in Custodian Meddy Kibirige, Hassan Musana, Seif Batte, and Burundi’s Pistitis Barenge.

One would wonder how the other inexperienced players would put up such a show to the extent of competing for the big prize.
Some of us knew Magera’s potential but never thought he would make such a good Head Coach.

What beats my understanding is how he has gotten the best from little-known Charles Bbaale, Jona Kakande, Edward Masembe, Gift Fred to mention the new faces at the former Villa Park based side.

One would attribute to the clubs’ welfare courtesy of the club President Ahmed Omar Mendala but we’ve seen we’ll facilitated clubs fail to compete.

Even if Villa doesn’t win the trophy, Jackson Magera has punched above weight and thus deserves a big applause.
Let’s give respect and recognition where need be.
