NEC FC picked a deserved 3-1 win victory over Kaaro Karungi in a FUFA Big League game held at the Coffee grounds in Bugolobi.

Goals from Kiberu Tonny, Julius Walugembe (penalty) and substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma ensured that the Bugolobi based side walked away with maximum points.

Captain Ian Amanya scored the only goal for Kaaro Karungi as they suffered defeat on the road.

The win, 13th for NEC, ensured that the Hosts returned to winning ways.

They moved to 44 points to third, level on points with second placed Mbarara City, and also just three below leaders Kitara.

It was a brilliant day for NEC who are having sights on promotional places this season.

They got off the mark in the 10th minute through Kiberu and his goal was the difference before the break.

After the break with minutes into the second half, Walugembe added the second through the spot to extend his side’s lead.

But the visitors, Kaaro Karungi pulled one back through their Captain Amanya as they tried to stage a come back.

After conceding, NEC head coach Michael Lukyamuzi introduced in veteran striker Sserunkuma, a change that later paid off with a goal.

And in the 90th minute, Sserunkuma made it three to put the icing on the cake.

Victory ensured that NEC closed the gap at the top. They are now level on points with second placed Mbarara City who were beaten by Kyetume and are also three points below leaders Kitara, who dropped points against Ndejje University on Thursday.

For Kaaro Karungi, it was another poor outing and a big blow in their bid to fight relegation. They dropped to the 10th position with 29 points and are not far away from the danger zone.
