She Cranes started their Netball World Cup preparations with a training session at Kamwokya on Monday.
But the main highlight was the low turn-up as only 13 of the 27 local based players attended.
But coach Fred Mugerwa was unmoved, justifying the low turn-up to late communication.
“The turn-up is because of late communication. There are somethings that had not been put in place. But I think all will be sorted,” Mugerwa said on Monday.
The gaffer said that he was given greenlight by the financially hit Federation to call players for training on Monday.
“It was late because some of the players had already got to their jobs at the time.”
Privas Kayeny (NIC), Bashira Nasaazi (UCU), Stella Nanfuka (Prisons) and Godlive Aguti (UPDF) are some of the players who missed out on Day One.
The training sessions will be held from Monday to Wednesday, with training being nonresidential.
“Focus is on fitness levels and that’s where we shall base and see how best we can improve,” Mugerwa added.
“Fitness levels are okay for starters because league is ongoing but at the National team level we have got to be better.
“We have to improve their team chemistry and moves because these players are coming from different teams across the league.
“Focus is also on Defence and how we can pick rebounds.”
This will be the third consecutive appearance for She Cranes at the World Cup since it’s return to the tournament in 2015 after 36 years, following their debut in 1979 in Trinidad and Tobago.
