•Blacks Power 1-1 KCCA FC
KCCA FC wasted an opportunity to close in on SC Villa after a 1-1 draw against Blacks Power in a league game played at Akii-bua Stadium.
Denis Iguma levelled before halftime after Robert Eseru had put Blacks Power ahead in opening exchanges.
And the draw, off the back of another similar result against Maroons, leaves KCCA FC three points behind leaders SC Villa who have played two games more.
Playing in an early kickoff under the scorching sun in Arua, the Visitors found themselves down before the 10th minute thanks to Robert Eseru goal.
And it was a cheap goal to concede after Haruna Lukwago recklessly lost possession in his own half for Denis Otim to free Eseru who poked past a helpless Derrick Ochan.
Ochan kept the score within KCCA’s reach with an outstanding save to deny Eseru who was raced through after Michael Siwu had headed in his path.
But Iguma restored parity at the other end when he connected on Allan Okello’s header to leave Blacks Power defence ball-watching.
The contest remained in balance but the chances were few and far part thereafter.
Usama Arafat’s powerful range went just an inch off, Rogers Mato shot poorly from close range while Muhammad Kagawa fired over with a goal at his mercy as KCCA came close.
The hosts showed early intent and could have scored through Otim when it was still 0-0, only to send his shot just over with KCCA defence beaten.
But the point is a huge motivation for Coach Hussein Mbalangu and his charges who move to 16 points on their long walk to survival.
KCCA Stagger In Title Race
After that draw against Maroons at Lugogo, KCCA needed a quick response against Blacks Power.
But they will leave Lira feeling its two points lost rather than a point earned.
They were not at their best but created the more and better chances than their host.
Points are going to be hard to come by as we enter the business end of the season as a lot is at stake as it was witnessed by Blacks Power performance.
Morley Byekwaso’s side are now on 37 points, with two games in hand in comparison with SC Villa.
But many KCCA FC fans will rightly feel that their biggest challenger is the defending champion in Vipers, a team which they have to visit in the near future.
KCCA still the best placed team in this three-man title race, but if they continue failing to grind out results, another dry season at Lugogo awaits.
What Next – Blacks Power visit Vipers on April 8 at Kitende while KCCA will host UPDF the following day at Lugogo.
