Challenger Series: Uganda Overcome Another Yellow Card Blow

Fifth place semifinal result
Chile 07 – 12 Uganda

Following their World Rugby Challenger series main cup quarterfinal loss to Germany due to numerical disadvantage, the rugby sevens cranes, regardless of the yellow cards obtained in today’s game, fought to secure a 07-12 victory over Chile in the fifth place semifinal.

Nobert Okeny was sent to the sin-bin leaving the cranes a man less before Chile scored a try.

After Okeny getting back onto pitch, Ian Munyani was also sent off for an intentional knock-forward and the cranes had to again fight with a man less.

Desire Ayera was able to get the cranes back into the game when he scored in the corner but a missed conversion would mean the first half ended with the 2022 hosts- Chile in the lead with a two points difference at 07-05.

Aaron Ofoywroth found his way past the Chilean line of defence but was unable to outpace the last man. With a tackle on him, he offloaded the ball to captain Michael Wokorach, who touched down the ball past the chalk to grant Uganda the lead at 07-12.

Chile pressed up on the cranes but their efforts failed to pay off and Uganda secured their fourth win of the tournament and advanced to the fifth place final.

They now take on Italy in the final game. Italy qualified after defeating Brazil 22-07 in the second fifth place semifinal.
