Day two results | 29th April
Germany 12 – 00 Uganda
Quarterfinals
Belgium 12 – 07 Uganda
Despite a promising start to the competition, the Uganda Rugby Sevens had a disappointing day two of the World Rugby Challenger Series round two as they lost both of their games against Germany and Belgium.
Having put up an impressive performance in round one and winning all their games on day one of round two, the Sevens’ hopes were high for a strong finish in the tournament.
However, things did not go as planned for them since they were unable to maintain their impressive form.
They lost the final Pool game 12-00 to Germany in the first game of the day played on Saturday 29th April but were still able to qualify to the knockout stages.
Later in the day, in their quarter-final game against Belgium, Uganda once again found themselves on the losing end, going down 12-07.
This result effectively ended their hopes of progressing to the semifinals and brought their hopes of qualifying for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens qualification play-offs to an end, leaving them to play Papua New Guinea in the fifth-place semifinals.
They are left with two games to play, both being the placement/ ranking games and will hope to finish fifth, a spot they have managed to finish at in the last two campaigns of the tournament- round one of the 2023 campaign, and the 2022 campaign held in Chile.
They will be taking on Papua New Guinea on the final day of the tournament in the fifth place semifinal, Sunday morning 30th April, 2023 at 10.22 EAT.
