Capricorn Series: Proscovia Alako Shines As Uganda Beat UAE

*Uganda win by 29 runs

Proscovia Alako won the Player of the Match award following her outstanding performance as Uganda beat UAE by 29 runs to secure their second victory at the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular Series ongoing at the United Grounds in Windhoek, Namibia.

The 20-year-old had been taunted by her lack of form after a terrible start to this tournament that followed her disappointing display at the just concluded Victoria Series, but she came in her element on Saturday to inspire Uganda to their second win of the tournament.

The opening batter was a menace to Chaya Mughal and her troops as she notched 85 off 55 balls including 10 fours and 2 sixes. Alako’s partnership with Janet Mbabazi (30) resulted in 109 runs.

After her wicket falling, Stephanie Nampiina picked up from where the Waterfalls T20 Player of the tournament left. Nampiina put on board 28 off 13. Immaculate Nakisuyi however, had the best strike rate with her 14 off 6 balls.

In the chase, Kavisha Kumar who won the batter of the tournament at the Victoria Series scored 51, Esha Oza 36 and Theertha Satish 22, but their efforts were not enough to claim victory. UAE were aided by Uganda’s poor fielding, but the 159 was too much a score for them to chase.

In UAE’s innings, captain Consy Aweko and Nampiina were the only Ugandans to pick wickets; each dismissing two. Aweko picked her opposite number Moghul in the second over before sending Oza back to the dugout in the 14th Over. Nampiina plucked both her wickets in her first and only Over.

Uganda made a solitary change in their team with Evelyn Anyipo making way for Patricia Malemekia who bowled 3 Overs in her first game.

After three games of play, Uganda sit second in the table standings behind hosts Namibia who they face this afternoon. Namibia are on a 100% run having won all their games.
