BatBall Open Series: Oruyongoyongo clinch Western Edition

Oruyongoyongo clinched the BatBall Open Western Edition after defeating Kanyonza by 27runs in the finals held at Serenity Oval in Kamengo on Sunday 9th April.

Oruyongoyongo won the toss and opted to bat which saw them register a massive 90 runs for the fall of 5 wickets and they managed to defend their score as their only limited Kanyonza to only 63runs all out to clinch the Western Edition series.

The Western Edition under the theme ‘KEEPING PERSONAL HYGIENE’, had four teams named after the names of birds in the region with Oruyongoyongo, Kanyonza, Entuuha and Enyawawa which attracted 56 players as the tournament was relayed live on Batball.tv

Speaking to the press at the conclusion of the tournament, the Western region local organising committee Chairman Yusuf Manga reflected on talent identification in the region.

“This tournament is a sign that the Western part of Uganda is capable of producing talent and such opportunities will help the players and coaches to reflect on the talent at hand,” said Yusuf Nanga LOC chairman.

With the BatBall Open regional Series done, focus now shifts to the BatBall X which will be played in June with a total of 16 best performing players come from each of the region’s which the series have taken place.

The Batball Chief Operating Officer Martin Ondeko has urged that the Series will be an annual event which targets to create a pathway for the young talents in each regions a cross Uganda.

“Such tournaments will not be a one off. Competitions will be seen in different regions of Uganda yearly as we continue to carve pathways for the young talent to take off with our partners,” said Martin Ondeko.

Best bowler – Rayan Tendo (Kayonza)

Best Wicketkeeper – Blair Nyesigamukama (Kayonza)

Best Fielder – Ronald Bwambale (Enyawawa)
