Swimming: Greenhill Academy clinch the eighth edition of the secondary schools Championships

Green Hill Academy managed to defend their crown in the Secondary Schools swimming championships as they were crowned the overall winners in a 64 competitive event organised at Green Hill Academy swimming pool in Kibuli.

Mugisha Karla and Norman Ampaire steered Green Hill Academy to their eighth secondary schools Championships as they massively contributed in the overall points of 1749 which saw their school defeat second placed Seroma Christian High School by a point difference of 297 points, Seroma gathered 1452 overall points.

17 years Old Mugisha Karla took the day to her own as she managed to bag 9 gold medals in the ladies categories she participated in with Namanya Ampaire bagging 6 gold medal in the individual heats.

Both Karla and Ampaire played a vital role as they helped Green Hill Academy win all the relays both in the boys categories and the girls categories.

The Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) president Moses Mwase was very positive on the number of schools taking part in the secondary schools Championships which some schools participating for the very first time.

“This is our eighth time organising the Secondary Schools Championships, we got alot of challenges during the COVID 19 pandemic as we couldn’t hist the event for two consecutive years. We managed to resume last year but the turn up of schools was low as compared to this time where we are having more than 14 schools taking part with the upcountry schools also engaged.” Said the Uganda Swimming Federation president Moses Mwase.

He also urged schools to take up the game as they look forward to extending the game of swimming to non traditional schools in order to spread the sport throughout the country.

“We have tried getting upcountry schools which are not central, the like of Elite High School, Nabumaali are taking par for the first time. We urge schools to take part in swimming. We again want to host an upcountry event in Mbale at Nabumaali last how we did last year.”

“We want to dig deep and spread the swimming to urban areas schools so that we can spread the swimming through the country so that next year we can have an increased number of participating schools.” Added Moses Mwase.

10. Nabumaali High School Mbale – 331 points
