Kitara region select defeats Uganda Cranes ahead of AFCON qualifiers

Kitara Region select team defeated Uganda Cranes 2-0 in their preparations game ahead of the AFCON qualifiers double with Tanzania.

Onenchan Ivan opened the scoring for Kitara Select in the 25th minute before Norman Namanya doubled the lead in the in the 39th minute in a game where head coach Micho Multin Sredjovic fielded six defenders in his starting lineup at Christ School playground, Bundibugyo.

Uganda Cranes head coach Micho used mostly local based players for the game with a few foreign based players who already jetted in the country like Charles Lukwaga who plays for St George in Ethiopia and defender Halid Lwaliwa.

This was the second consecutive time Uganda Cranes lost to Kitara in a regional tour game, the first was in 2019 Uganda Cranes lost 1-0 at Booma Ground, Hoima.

On Sunday, Micho will select a group of local players that will head to Cairo Egypt for more preparations of the AFCON Qualifiers against Tanzania.

Foreign based players will later join the local based squad in Egypt for further preparations.

Uganda Cranes will host Tanzania on 24th March at Suez canal Stadium while they will visit In Dar es Salaam on 28th the very month.

The Cranes currently sits at the bottom of group F, with 1 point collected from their previous two fixtures.

Simillary, Tanzania too has 1 point but find themselves in a better position because of better goal differences.

Algeria tops with 6points while Niger comes Second with 2 points.
