Jackson Mayanja: Hippos head coach sets eyes on World Cup qualification ahead of Nigeria tie

Uganda Hippos today is taking on Nigeria in AFCON U-20 tournament which is in Egypt, Head Coach Jackson Mayanja reveals how the team is prepared to take on the challenge.

“We are very prepared as a team and this is the most important time for my team to make sure we achieve our goal and all the players are in good condition they’re very fine”.

Mayanja addressing to journalists, he insisted on how he wants to achieve world cup qualification with his team.

“l have always said it and l will always say it again here. What l want to achieve with this team is to qualify for the World Cup “.

“l don’t need to know so much about Nigeria even if you go out and look around every player but football is about what you think about in the tactical part of it so we are trying to put ourselves in a very good tactical position “.

Mayanja ensures Ugandans that Hippos will fight despite Nigeria being a good team.

“Nigeria is a good team . It’s going to be a very hard game but l think like l said, the achievement we need is tomorrow, that’s what we want to achieve”.

Nigeria have won AFCON U-20 7 times 

 In 2021 Mauritania, the Hippos reached finals only losing to Ghana 2-0.

Uganda Hippos had two players that were named in the best X1 of group stages including defender Rogers Torach and winger Rogers Mugisha, they will depend more on their performance.

Uganda Hippos will also rely on other outstanding players including captain Isma Mugulusi, Midifielder Ivan Irinimbabazi, Titus Ssematimba, Travis Mutyaba and left back Ibrahim Juma.
