Cricket: National Teams and Facilities a major focus as Nuwagaba retained

The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) held a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo on Saturday 11th as Micheal Nuwagaba was re-elected as Chairman.

Nuwagaba returns to serve his second and last tenure as UCA chairman and in his speech, he set all his focus on national teams development with a target of a better ODI ranking.

“We will maintain the same speed on some of these things as we develop cricket, we shall have a lot of focus on the National teams, as we push for higher ranking and getting close to ODI.” Said Micheal Nuwagaba 

He has also set eyes on facility development as a key issue which will help them in hosting international events, Uganda held one of the biggest international event as they held a successful ICC Challenge League B.

“The other issue coming out currently is the issue of facilities. We have been pushing for land, and this is something we will maintain because it is key for us. We want to improve our nurseries to give us more players and the partnerships to get us into certain places or run some activities. Ideally in a 360, those are very key.” Nuwagaba said.

Micheal Nuwagaba served as the UCA secretary before replacing Bashir Badu Ansasira in 2021 for the Chairmanship role, he is also the board representative for Wanderers Cricket Club.

Nuwagaba’s first tenure in office yielded huge success as Uganda national teams had busiest year with the Victoria Pearls playing their first ever international competitive tournament and performed at their best in 2022 in Nepal and won the series.

Uganda also hosted the first ICC tournament since 2017 when they last had one, the ICC Challenge League B tournament held in Kyambogo and Lugogo had a huge number of fans coming out in support of the Cricket Cranes.

In the same AGM, Jackson Kavuma was elected as the new Secretary replacing Alvin Bagaya whereas Rita Tinka will represent the women.

Praminder Garcha and Enock Barumba were welcomed on board as the new two trustees to join Steven Lumonya who was retained.

The two trustees replaced Ranmal Keshwala and Steven Lusawata Lugemwa.
