AFCON U20: Hippos suffer Nigeria loss, World Cup dream fades away

Uganda U20 national team the Hippos lost their quarterfinals duel against Nigeria by a 1-0 score in arch played at Suez Canal international stadium, Egypt.

Unlucky Ibrahim Juma converted into his own net when he miss controlled a rebound off a shot from Ibrahim Muhammad which beat goalkeeper Abdul Magada to hit the post.

The Hippos dominated the game especially in the second stanza as they created a couple of chances on goal but failed to find the cutting edge as Nigeria defended in numbers.

A 1-0 defeat put an end to Uganda’s dreams of reaching the bigger stage in World Cup as they failed to book a slot in the semifinals of the AFCON U20 tournament which could have earned them a direct ticket to the U20 World Cup to be played in Indonesia.

AFCON U20 record champions (7time winners) Nigeria will now fancy their chances of adding onto their trophy cabinet as they search for an eighth trophy having secure their return to the U20 World Cup.
