Vipers, Wakiso Giants fire blanks in Wakiso derby

Tuesday 21st February

Vipers SC 0-0 Wakiso Giants – Kitende

Blacks Power 0-2 Busoga United – Lira

UPDF FC 1-1 BUL FC – Bombo

Vipers SC played out to a goalless draw against Wakiso Giants in the Startimes Uganda Premier league match played at St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

The Venoms have continued to suffer with a goal drought under new head coach Beto Bianchi who is yet to register his first goal at the club after replacing departed Robertinho Oliviera.

Desire Tety had the better opportunity on the day to open up the scoring for Vipers after beating goalkeeper Samson Kiirya but his effort couldn’t find the back of the as he placed in the side net.

Wakiso Giants had nothing much to play for in the game as they played more of defensive football as the Venoms took the game to them and defender Paul Willa commanded his backline better which earned him a man of the match performance.

Vipers who are preparing for a CAF champions League double header against East African neighbors Simba SC from Tanzania have now extended their non scoring run to five games under Brazilian-Spanish head coach Beto Bianchi.

The Venoms created a couple of goalscoring opportunities in each of the games they paly but they continue to lack that cutting edge which can link their midfield to the strikers hence suffering to penetrate the opponents defence.

A goalless draw against the purple sharks proves that Vipers dominance against the Wakiso based side is now taking shape as they have managed to avoid defeat in both of the fixtures played this season, the first round game ended 1-1 at Kabaka Kyabagu Stadium.

Vipers SC have now squandered a chance to close in on the gap with table leaders KCCA FC as they now trail by a 4 points gap in the third place where they sit with 28 points from 15 games.

Wakiso Giants have now moved to the fourth position on the log with 26 points.

Vipers will return to action on Saturday 25th February as they host Simba SC in the CAF champions League whereas Wakiso Giants’ next game will come next month on the 3rd a s they take on Maroons in Wakisha.
