Stanbic Uganda Cup: Bunyaruguru United eliminate UPDF FC

Kiyinda Boys 2-1 Kigezi Homeboys – Mityana Saza grounds

Ankole regional league side Bunyaruguru United have continued to stamp their name in the history books of Uganda Football after eliminating UPL side UPDF FC by a 2-1 score in the Uganda Cup round of 32 tie.

The Ankole Hippos scored in each half of the game courtesy of goals from Ibrahim Kateregga and Edison Kaheebwa to secure a massive victory which saw them progress to the round of 16.

Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored the only consolation goal for the Army side as they have yet again struggled playing away from home.

UPDF FC saw a hard time as they only needed the penalties to their rescue when they eliminated Bushenyi Veterans after playing out to a goalless draw. 

UPDF FC woes have now worsened as they have yet again failed to a simple task from the Ankole regional league side, Brian Ssenyondo coached side have only managed two wins eversince tye start of the 2022/2023 league season.

The other Uganda cup match played on the day saw Mityana based side Kiyinda Boys defeat Kigezi Homeboys by a 2-1 score to book a slot in the round of 16 in a game played at Mityana Saza grounds.

Steven Namuwadda and Steven Ssebufu scored for Kiyinda Boys as Dickinson Odeke scored  the only goal for the Western region league side Kigezi Homeboys.
