Saturday 18th February

Vipers SC 0-0 Horoya AC – St. Mary’s stadium Kitende

Vipers SC played out to a goalless draw against Horoya AC in their first home CAF champions League match at St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

The Venoms were reduced to a man as defender Issa Mubiru was shown a straight red card for unsportsmanlike conduct after elbowing an opponent in the 78th minute.

Vipers playing at home in their own yard dominated the early minutes of the game as they created a couple of chances on goal but lacked composure and calmness infront of goal.

Desire Tety and skipper Milton Kariisa had chances to put Vipers ahead but their efforts couldn’t haunt the Horoya goalkeeper.

The Venoms defence alot of challenges from the Horoya AC attackers especially Pape Abdou Ndiaye who forced goalkeeper Alfred Makamu Mudekereza to a couple of saves.

Milton Kariisa was set up brilliiantly by Bright Anukani in a situation which looked to be a golden opportunity for the Venoms to take the lead but skipper was late to react as he missed from close range.

Vipers were later reduced to a man down with Issa Mubiru the best defender of the day recieving matching orders and the hard to defend their point with a man down which affected their attack hence settling for a goalless draw.

Vipers under the new head coach Beto Bianchi are yet to score a goal from open play which is a huge problem they need to solve earlier if they are to make it out of the CAF champions league group stages.

Horoya AC currently sit top of their group with four points from two games played whereas Vipers are now third with a point collected at home.

Both teams will return in action with double headers as Vipers will be taking on East African neighbors Simba SC from Tanzania while Horoya will be up against Raja Casablanca.
