FUFA to withdraw Uganda from CHAN 2023

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has issued a staunch statement as they are set to withdraw Uganda’s participation in the upcoming CHAN 2023 tournament.

This has come up after a statement from the FUFA president Moses Hashim Magogo taking to his Twitter account a statement crying out to government for findings.

“Like for the U23, we are left with no further option but to withdraw the Uganda Cranes from CHAN finals because ministry of finance has not provided the funds as appropriated by the parliament.” Read a statement from Moses Magogo

He went ahead to console the the players and coaches that made sure that they take Uganda through the qualifying process when they eliminated Tanzania 4-0 on aggregates.

“The sanctions to Uganda will affect the future if we don’t take the hard decision now. Sorry for the players and coaches who qualified the team but it is the moment to face the reality.” Added Magogo

Uganda who are pooled in group B alongside Ivory Coast, Senegal and DR Congo will have to face a tougher task because once they pull out, FUFA will face sanctions from the African Football Body (CAF).

It’s not the first time FUFA has withdrawn a team from any AFCON tournament as they made hefty decision to withdraw the U23 team.
