Argentina claimed their third World Cup trophy after an intense penalty shootout as they defeated France 4-2 following a 3-3 draw after extra time to be crowned Champions of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
France youngster Kylian Mbappe took the show by himself as he scored a hat trick in the finals canceling out a first half 2-0 lead for Argentina to push the game in extra time where he completed his hat trick.
Messi scored a penalty in the 22nd minute after a foul on Dimaria by Dembele to put Argentina a head before Angel Di Maria doubled their tally in the 36th minute.
With the game in the second half of extra time, Lionel Messi scored his second goal of the day in the 108th minute to have an eye at the golden boot but PSG teammate Mbappe was not yet done as he stood up to convert his second penalty in the 118th minute to send the game into penalties as he topped the scores chart with 8 goals
France was at it’s worst in half time which forced their coach Deschamps to call for early substitutions of Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud replacing them with Marcus Thuram and Kingsley Coman in the 41st minute of the game who changed the tempo of the game.
Messi has scored 98 goals for Argentina of which 13 are of world cup and has became the first player in history to score in the group stages ,round of 16, quarter finals, Semi finals and final in a single edition of the world cup.
Kylian Mbape has become the youngest man ever to score 10 World cup goals at just 23 years and has become the 1st player to score a World cup final hat trick since England’s Geof Hurst in 1966.
Argentina has now won 3 World cup trophies from 6 finals played that is 1978 ,1986 and 2022 Meanwhile France has reached 4 finals with a back to back that is 2018 and 2022.
Messi walks away as the best player of the tournament ,Emiliano Martinez as the best goalkeeper ,Enzo Fenandez as the best young player and Mbape as the best top scorer with 8 goals.
