Vipers to host TP Mazembe in CAF Champions League qualifier first leg

Reigning Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC are two games away from gracing the CAF Champions League group stages for the first time ever in their 59 years of existence.

However, first they will have a tough challenge against DR Congo giants TP Mazembe.

TP Mazembe are one of the most successful clubs in the cup’s history in Sub-Saharan Africa having won the trophy on five outings.

This however doesn’t seem to scare the Venoms who eliminated Central African Republic’s Olympic Real de Bangui by 4-0 aggregate to advance to this stage.

Vipers will therefore host Mazembe in the first leg at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende.

There will also be other games with some of Africa’s best clubs such as Al Ahly, Wydad, Mamelodi Sundowns all playing.

The first leg will be played between 7-9th October with the second leg coming between 14-16th October.

Vipers will hope to cause a scare against TP Mazembe which is no longer as strong as it was years ago on the Continent.
