Masaza Cup: Kyaggwe and Mawokota secure quarter final slots as Kyadondo miss out

The 2022 Masaza cup group stages climaxed on Sunday 4th September on various play grounds and the biggest achievers were Kyaggwe and Mawokota who sealed slots in the quarterfinals.

Despite both sides finishing third in their groups, they were tanked as the best two third placed teams edging Kyadondo with higher points to joint the top two qualified teams from the three groups.

Kyaggwe defeated Bugerere by a 1-0 margin in a match played at Kasana play grounds. Male Anthony scored the only goal to ensure that his side finish third in the group with on 16 points in the Muganzirwaza group.

Mawokota also secured a slot in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 win away from home against Kooki at St. Joseph vocational institute in kyotera with goals from Mayanja Abubaker and Lwanyaaga Richard.

Kyadondo who were in a better position as one of the best ranked third place team lost their battle with a 2-1 defeat against Ssingo at Mwererwe play ground to only finish at 13 points in the Masengere group.

Elsewhere, Busiro defeated Bulemeezi 1-0 to claim a top spot finish in the Muganzirwaza group with 25 points restricting Bulemeezi to just 19 points.

Buddu were the biggest winners on the day with a 3-0 win away from home against Mawogola as Bruno Bunyaga scored a brace to top the scorers list with 7 goals. Tigan Kirumira scored the other goal for Buddu.

Gomba defeated Kabula 2-0 with a brace from Sam Lukoye as Buwekula beat Butambala 2-1. The game between Busujju and Ssese was not played as the hosts of Busujju failed to turn up.
