Uganda Premier League reveals when league will start

The administration of the Uganda Premier League has revealed when the league will be starting for the 2022-2023 season.

According to the official communication, the league will kick off on the 30th of September.

However, the fixture is yet to be released although its believed that it will be released by the end of this week.

The drafted fixture list was supposed to be released on the 22nd of August but this was delayed due to Kyetume’s failure to fulfill the required necessities in time.

The league had been slated to open on the 10th of September. UPL revealed that they won’t be pushing any further beyond 30th September.

“You are aware that Kyetume has an issue and were given a Monday (August 23) deadline (hence the delay),” League Manager Paul Kabaikaramu told The-SportsNation.

“Originally, we planned to have the fixture ready by a month before then Kickoff on September 10 which was later postponed to 30th. This is not going to affect us in any way, we can’t push any further.”

“And to add, by close of this week, we could have the fixture out if all goes to plan,” Kabaikaramu revealed.

He further said that the Secretariat couldn’t release a fixture and dates for the start of the season before all teams fulfilled all the licensing requirements.

They are now waiting for the solution to Kyetume’s problems and then put a fixture together.

“That process has to go to the end because otherwise, I am drawing a fixture of how many teams?” he rhetorically asked.

“After we get that communication which we expect by today or tomorrow, then also confirmation of Club venues, then we will be good to go.”

“For us (UPL Secretariat), we are even ready as of now. We are just waiting for the Kyetume case to be resolved to know what we put in the fixture.”

Besides for unknown reasons, the Pilsner Super 8 won’t be happening for a second consecutive season.
