Netball: Uganda to host 2023 African Championship

Uganda has been named the hosts of the 2023 Africa Netball Championship. This was reached up in the Africa Netball general sitting held in Pretoria on Saturday.

The tournament will be held in Uganda after the Netball world tournament which will come in June 2023 in South Africa as decided by the Federation presidents with Sarah Babirye Kityo representing Uganda.

This will be the second time Uganda is hosting the African Netball tournament having won it in 2017 when they first hosted it a Lugogo.

Uganda finished runners up in the last edition of the Africa Netball Championship as they lost to South Africa in the finals a tournament held in Malawi in 2021.

Uganda who finished fifth at the commonwealth games after defeating South Africa to maintain their rank at number six in the world with automatic qualification to the world netball tournament, withdrew from the ongoing World cup qualifiers in South Africa due to financial difficulties.

She Cranes will now turn focus to preparations of the upcoming Netball World cup with the Vitality Series coming up their way in October.
