Manzoki isn’t the best foreign player to play in Uganda

Coach Sam Ssimbwa and ex KCCA FC midfielder Sam Ssimbwa has come out to reveal that former Vipers forward Cesar Manzoki is not the best foreign player to ever play in the Ugandan top flight football league.

Manzoki undoubtedly had one of the best individual seasons ever in the Uganda Premier League last season.

This is after he won a couple of individual gongs. These included Player of the Season, Playmaker of the Season, Forward of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, and was also in the Team of the 2021/22 Season.

There is no doubt that the two years Manzoki spent at Vipers before signing for Chinese side Dalian Yifang FC showed that he’s the best foreign player in his generation.

When it comes to overall best foreign player, opinions can differ and according to Ssimbwa, Manzoki’s not the best and he named some of those ahead of the Central African Republic striker.

“Manzoki has been good during his time here but he is not the best foreign player to have ever played in Uganda,” the former Uganda Cranes player told Football256.

“There are more foreign players that performed better than him but undoubtedly he is amongst the best.”

“Ederi Muvumbane, Maurice Sunguti, Asan Bajope, Tote Songe, Ekutchu Kasongo were all very good players and far better than Manzoki.”

“There was a time when the federation tried hard to change Muvumbane’s nationality from Congo so that he can play for the Cranes but failed,” Ssimbwa noted.

Muvumbane, Bajope, Songe, and Kasongo were all from the Democratic Republic of Congo while Sunguti was a Kenyan. It seems like Congolese players thrive a lot in the Ugandan league as Manzoki is also Congolese born although he opted to play for the CAR.

Muvumbane and Bajobe played for KCCA, Sunguti for both Express FC and SC Villa, Kasongo for Villa while Songe featured for Mbarara United and Express.

The former AS Vita striker played 56 games. scoring 32 goals and assisting 15 times – a 47-goal involvement.

He also won the golden boot in the 2021 season in the Uganda cup.
