The Uganda netball national team the She Cranes defeated Trinidad and Tobago 62-28 in the netball tournament at the 2022 commonwealth games in Birmingham.
The she Cranes dominated the game which turned out to be a one sided affair as world’s number six was up against the 10th ranked side. Fred Mugerwa coached side took an early lead as they were up in the first quarter with 13-06.
The second quarter saw a stretched lead of 20 points by the She Cranes and also limiting their opponents Trinidad and Tobago to just 7 points going into the half way break on a comfortable 33-13 points lead.
The third and fourth quarter also didn’t seem to troublesome to the cranes as they won both with the scores of 14-9 and 15-6 respectively to win the game on 62-28 score clinching their first win as they bounced back from a 53-40 loss against New Zealand.
Coach Fred Tabale made a couple of changes which saw Mary Nuba start ahead of team captain Peace Proscovia and proving her worth on the team as she put in a brilliant performance managing to net 28 points off 32 balls in a conversion rate of 88%.
Shadia Nassanga’s effort off the bench steered team Uganda to victory as she put up the fight to net 25 points. The She Cranes will return in action on Tuesday as they take on England the host before facing off with Northern Ireland on Wednesday and later a Thursday game against Malawi.
