Commonwealth Games: Kiplimo wins second Gold medal

He becomes the third Ugandan to win Gold at both 5000 and 10,000 metres.

Jacob Kiplimo won his second Gold medal at the on going commonwealth games in Birmingham as he won the 5000 metres race.

He powered in pace to move past the Kenyan duo in the last bend of the race as both Kimeli and Krop had dominated the top two slots with energy and fresh legs as they didn’t take part in the 10,000 metres.

The Kenyans settled for Silver and Bronze as they couldn’t match the speedy pace of Kiplimo as he took home Gold with Kimeli coming close to fish second 13:08:19 and Krop with 13:08:48 settling for Bronze.

Kiplimo becomes the third Ugandan to win Gold in both the 5000 and 10,000 metres at the commonwealth games emulating the likes of Joshua Cheptegei in 2018 and Moses Kipsiro in 2010.

He takes Uganda’s medal tally to five medals with three Gold medals and two bronze medals.

Victor Kiplagat is the other Ugandan to win Gold in the marathon and Peruth Chemutai who settled for bronze after a fall in steeplechase.

Teddy Nakimuli completes the tally as she made history as the first female boxer to win a medal at the commonwealth games as she settled for Bronze.
