Commonwealth Games: Kiplimo wins Gold, sets new games record.

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo won Gold in the 10,000 metres at the commonwealth games in a record breaking race in Birmingham.

Kiplimo set the new games record as he clocked home with a time of 27:09:19 to beat of stiff competition from Kenya’s Daniel Ebenyo.

He breaks the games record held by his elder brother Joshua Cheptegei of 27:19:62 which he put up in the Gold coast games in 2018.

Ebenyo held onto his nerves to Finnish second with 27:11:26 settling for Silver as his fellow teammate Kibwotti Kandie won bronze after clocking 27:20:34.

A win for Kiplimo in the 10,000 metres ensures that Uganda has maintained its legacy of defending the medal at the commonwealth games since 2006 in Melbourne as Boniface Kiprop won Gold.

In 2010 Moses Kipsiro won it for Uganda in Dheli and later defended it in 2014 Glasgow games, Joshua Cheptegei was the athlete to win for Uganda as he won in 2018 games in Gold coast.

This Stands to be Uganda’s second gold medal at the 2022 games in Birmingham on top of the Marathon Gold medal won by Victor Kiplagat.

Team Uganda remains hopefully for more medals as Jacob Kiplimo will try to win Gold in the 5,000 metres.

Halima Makati in the 800 metres progressed to the finals after finishing second in her heat and in the 100 metres we had Jacent Nyamahunge finish third to book a spot on the finals.
