Uganda national beach soccer team the sand cranes booked their spot in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations tournament as they eliminated Comoros.
The sand cranes defeated Comoros 4-3 in the return leg match played at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru on Sunday 7th August to qualify on a 9-5 aggregate score having won the first leg in Comoros by 5-2 score.
It was a closely contested battle at Njeru as Comoros put up a strong fight but Nicolas Mwere inspired Uganda to the win a hat trick adding onto an early goal from Brian Nkuubi.
Uganda dominated the game from the start of the first period which saw Nkuubi bag an early goal in first minute of the game.
Period one came to an end with a comfortable lead for Uganda as Nicolas Mwere showcased his skill to net two goals which put the sand to a 3-0 lead.
Comoros came back stronger as they tried to pull a come back as Moeva Chakira scored twice and Ismael Ahmed scored the third to draw the game level in the second period.
Uganda proved to be the better team on the day as they brought back Nicolas Mwere off the bench to score in the last period of the game a goal which separated both sides.
Uganda has now qualified to the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations for the second time having taken part in the tournament held in Senegal last year.
